Your avatar and how it looks and reacts is important to displaying the high quality girl you are. Two small changes in preferences can make a lot of difference to how you look. The first is the "timeout", the period before your avatar slumps and the word Away appears over your head. The second is the typing animation. Nothing messes up the look of a hot scene like the sight of your hands suddenly typing wildly in the air as your client plunges into you.
Both are easily fixed in Preferences, find either under the Me menu, Preferences in the 2.0 style viewer or under the Edit menu, Preferences...or use the shortcut Ctrl+P. The attached video shows the two areas where you can set or turn off this function along with the setting for receiving IMs when you are offline and your messages get capped. We'll look at creating an e-mail address for your avatar under Lesson 9 - Security.

There are many settings in Preferences that can effect your experience here. Following are some Torley videos recommending some settings. Please look them over, I'm often surprised by some overlooked setting that either makes the experience more vivid or something that helps with a slower connection it's all in the videos. Check them out on your dashboard
Turning off classic clouds might help to speed your computer along
There is even the suggestion in the Quick Start Guide that you lower your graphics performance when moving into an area where the graphics demands are high due to avatars or products, for example, clubs and shops.
The slider underlined here can be set for Low (Faster) and increased to Mid or High once you've rezzed in
It does work as does reducing the screen size with the restore down key, both increase your frame rate.
Restore down (who knew?)
Once you are in the venue and things have "rezzed" to that level, inch the graphic setting back up then after a short while restore your screen to the regular size. You'll only miss the full graphic content for a short time, maybe 5 or 10 minutes that way, but, there is a tremendous performance boost available.
If you have somehow missed watching the communication video, please look at it now. It will help with set up of the voice capability (if only for listening).
